Gorge of the Dead
The Gorge of the dead is one of the most interesting gorges in Crete. It lies at the end of the European 4 Path, starts from the settlement of Pano Zakros and ends in the beach of Kato Zakros. The name “Gorge of the Dead” was given due to the many Minoan tombs found in caverns in its steep sides, visible while walking it, as well as the various geological formations, creating, being works of art unto themselves, a fantastic scenery.
The gorge is full of life and due to its natural beauty, the Minoans believed that those entombed there would continue their afterlives in that place.
